All About Therapy

Learn About My Methods

People choose to enter therapy at different times in their lives. Whether in a moment of crisis or loss, time of transition, feeling "stuck" or, wanting to further explore one's self. Regardless of your choice, I will use a relational approach to work together, using our therapeutic relationship to make positive changes in a warm, safe, and compassionate space.

Talking about problems can be very difficult, especially if you have been betrayed in the past. Feelings of shame, guilt, fear of being judged or fear that no one will truly understand you can keep people from getting the help they need.

I provide individual psychotherapy to adults. I have experience treating depression, bipolar disorders, grief, marital problems, anxiety and identity related challenges with a focus and specialization in trauma and PTSD. I use research based and cutting edge techniques such as prolonged exposure therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and somatic interventions to reduce symptoms and improve functioning.

I tailor my approach to foster both symptom relief and substantive change. In working together, I seek to enable you to access your innate capacities for self-healing and to help you become more fully who you are.

I listen carefully, as the narratives you share may convey both obvious and deeper meanings. I look for patterns and offer insights. I attend to dynamics in your relationships to help you stop recreating problems from your past in the present. You need to feel safe to take risks in treatment, so I work to create a consistent and honest environment.

Whether you are seeking therapy at a time of crisis, or from a desire to deepen your awareness of self, this process will meet you where you are. It is an experience attuned to your specific psychological needs. I believe that as human beings, we have the ability, within our core selves, to heal and grow. Therapy is designed to realize your authentic self in the world.

I believe that the relationship formed in therapy is the foundation and the beginning of true change. I work from a primarily psychodynamic orientation, where there is an emphasis on how past experiences have helped shape present life, with a strong emphasis on current and early relationships.

The therapy room should be a safe, trusted, and nurturing place for change and healing to occur.
You are encouraged to take an active role in your treatment. Empowerment, focus on strengths, and cultural and spiritual themes are incorporated into the treatment plan to help improve quality of life and promote self awareness.
